The Uplift Story

Hi. I’m Serena Lin (Pomona College ’25). I designed Uplift to answer the question: How do you make the most of the limited time you have with people you care about? In my years of work with older adults, I’ve appreciated their wisdom. But it can be daunting to initiate those conversations….

My hope is that anyone, regardless of your background [ or level of extrovertedness : ) ] can open the Uplift box and start the conversations that matter.

Strengthen & capture your cherished memories, one note at a time.

My goal is to get 1000 uplift sets out in the world by the end of 2024, and to give some of them to underserved communities.

Lets Uplift Together!

-Serena Lin

Encouragement Gallery

Stories & Behind-the-Scenes

A series of blog posts about the process of creating the Uplift Notes Toolbox, and some vignettes of stories & moments along the way.

Seriously Silly

September 1, 2023
When I started working on this intergenerational project over 3 years ago, I thought that everything had to be super “deep” and philosophical. But…

I remembered…

August 10, 2023
she didn’t really remember what happened that weekend, the restaurants and tours all a whirlwind,  but she said, “I  remembered who I was with.”

Dance

July 10, 2023
As an aspiring musician, I definitely have my days where I wonder if it’s all worth it: the scraggly notes that tangle themselves together as you stumble through a new piece, the long practice hours, the callouses, the nervousness before concerts–what does it all stand for?

Innovation is like a Slingshot

Sometimes, you need to go 1 step backward to go 10 steps forward…

Why is there singing?

May 27, 2023
My grandfather was one of the first participants in the early iterations of the Uplift Notes Toolbox. For context: he is a wise man of few words, and has a calm and grounding presence.

Want to start something? Don’t Start something.

April 10, 2023
Problems propel solutions. Trying to rush and make a solution without proximity to the core issues, is like trying to make pizza without a dough–it’ll be a saucy mess!

Notes of Joy

March 10, 2023
As I was flipping through my journal, reminiscing on life’s happenings pre-pandemic, I landed on a page describing a trip I had made with Theresa*, a fellow musician, to celebrate one of her friend’s 82nd birthdays !
